What Everybody Should Know About History Of Ladies Underwear

Teddy lingerieThe History of ladies Underwear

It’s worth admitting at once that underwear, as well as clothes, is self-determined reflection of certain epoch and trend.

Slowly but steadily the forerunner of underwear – long shirts- came from Middle Ages to our times. The main process of lingerie evolution can be dated back to the 19th century when the constant values changing took place: corsets went away to give the place for hoop skirts. Such skirts were used to support 5-6 m long women dresses which were in fashion at those times. In spite the fact of ladies’ underwear novelties shirts determined fashion tendencies.

Embroidery, which introduced a certain luxury and distinction to underwear, was considered to be a sort of democracy. And there were no boundaries to fantasy – they began to knit, to decorate with fine laces, to use tapes. The turning point was the time when first stockings suspenders appeared. It’s interesting to notice that first suspenders were fixed to the front part of a corset. The special belts (as we may observe them now) appeared. The fact is that a responsible lady of the 20th century had to wear somewhat 3 kilos of underwear which included pants, shirts and skirts. Besides these all it was necessary to wear a corset to make the figure look slimmer and more graceful. The first and the second under-skirts were obligations.

As the cold season came war underwear occupied its place in the closet. So decisive measures to take off extra kilos had to be taken. The struggle for women underwear simplification, for slight cut was inevitable. Unfortunately in the very beginning these steps, though having been taken properly, failed. However the great novelty, which was welcomed by women, had become more or less common shadowgraph. The new image presented a woman with flat belly and bulb buttocks. The accent made on the breasts was a novelty as well. This effect however was achieved with the help of moulage or at least silk pillows.

The main novelty of the 20t century is that the low part of the shadowgraph gained straight lines. To buy lingerie in the 20th century you had to attend all the shows where the women with too long body- without waist, thighs and buttocks displayed the whole loveliness and charm of the latest models. And the main point to buy lingerie in the previous century was to be aware of the optimal variant – whalebone corset with the very long sticks.

These are the simplest examples of the tendencies’ changing in the history of ladies underwear

7 Signs of Lingery Minimalist Fever

7 Signs of Lingery Minimalist FeverMinimalism in clothing habits today takes its extreme form, which verges on exhibitionism. The desire of modern society to expose oneself is nothing but a cultural fever, which has its signs and consequences. What is significant this fever concerns women and men equally.

So what are the signs of cloth minimalist fever:

1. We start with traditional THONGS, which is ‘classics’ of modern minimalist style. Even our grannies have already got used to these small lingerie pieces. There is a dozen of thongs styles available in every local lingerie store, which boggle the mind of an average customer with their ribbons, laces and ruffs.

Three most common designs of thons are:
- traditional thongs
- G-string
- V-string
- Dance belt

Have no idea what is the difference between these styles – read Wikipedia.

2. MALE THONGS are a topic in its own right. Despite an existing opinion that this underwear is for girls only, statistics says that it becomes more common among men as well. And if we remember that g-strings originally were the only garment of Japanese fundoshi 2000 years ago, we won’t be surprised by this fact (Read more in Thongs: 10 curious facts).

Although, the number of women wearing thongs is great deal outnumbers the men, the first step has been made. Men’s thongs are not associated with strip dancers and gays any longs.

Below are a few reasons why they do it:
- thongs prevent visible brief lines
- minimize tan lines
- give more support
- they are comfortable
- sexy
- they are not seen under trousers

3. You have always thought that it is impossible to create something more revealing than g-strings, look at the C-STRING (and it is not a computer term, it is lingerie)! It is a g-string, but without the band around the waist! It is held in place firmly by a flexible internal frame and in some cases also silicone lines at the both ends.

C-strings were created to eliminate any possibility of panty lines. But I wouldn’t be surprised if in the near future we’ll see them on the beach, as they can also minimizes tan lines.

Wanna one – go here to purchase.

4. Now let’s speak about swimwear. A good example of minimalist fever is a MICROKINI. It is a traditional bikini, but 20 times smaller. It looks like a bikini for a Barbie, so tiny it is! But if you know the history of this provocative swimwear, you would understand why it is so small and revealing.

Originally it was designed to cover as minimum skin as possible, just to comply with the laws banning nudity in public places. First microkinis were homemade swimsuits sewn by Venice Beach regulars in ‘70s who were banned to stay nude.

5. One more provocative bikini style is a SLING BIKINI, or SUSPENDER BIKINI. It is an extremely revealing and sexually provoking style of swimwear. It looks like big thongs, because its side straps are supposed to come up to cover breasts. Although this style won’t reduce tan lines, but it is sure to attract men’s attention to you on the beach. 7 Signs of Lingery Minimalist Fever

6. STRAPLESS BIKINI or a C-STRING bikini is the choice of daring girls who do not want any tan lines! Extremely explicit and revealing!

Find a wide choice of strapless bikinis here.

6. Last and least! MONOKINI does not only verge on nudity, but it is nudity itself. This swimwear style is used for topless bathing and consequently consists only of the bottom part of a bikini, which can be any design you like!

Thongs: 10 Most Curious Facts

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

thongsThey burst in our life in the last decade of the previous century and very soon became the fastest-selling style of women underwear. Being extremely popular among large groups of young and middle-aged people (both men and women), THONG or G-STRING is still surrounded by many controversies.

Actually I think they can deservedly be called the most CONTROVERSIAL article of clothing. Let’s see what is so curious about thongs what makes people talk about them so much!

1. Despite the fact that we got aware of thongs or g-strings in 80s-90s only, they are probably the earliest form of clothing known to mankind!!! African tribal peoples and Japanese fundoshi wore thongs as their only garment as long as 2000 years ago.

2.
In Western cultures thongs are primarily female underwear style. And although today more and more men start wearing thongs, women wearing thongs still heavily outnumber their boyfriends. But originally, by primitive peoples thongs were cut for the male anatomy!

3.
Modern thongs have first appeared in Brazil and it is not accidentally because in Brazil the buttocks are especially admired and emphasized!

4.
Minimalism is an explicit tendency of the 21st century and underwear of young people gets so small that it is difficult to imagine it can be something even smaller. Thongs and G-strings have received much criticism for its revealing and sexually provoking nature, but now there is something even more controversial!C-string is a thong without the band around the waist! It is held by a flexible internal frame. It was designed to help women eliminate all possible panty and tan lines! See at the picture on the right.

5. Pop culture welcomed thongs and their positive attitude is heard in their songs. Artists composing songs about thongs include Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Lil’ Kim. One song that popularized thongs was the “Thong Song” by Sisqó, released in 2000.

6. Some people think that thong is a too revealing and provoking undergarment for wearing it in the beach. Tat is why some countries and municipal governments in the United States have passed legislation forbidding G-string swimsuits in public! The University of California 4-H and Virginia FCCLA program specifically forbids “string, thong or crochet” swimsuits for women, while men are permitted in swim trunks only (no shorts, cut-off pants, or Speedos).

7. Besides, that is not a rare case, when thongs bring people to Court. In 1999 a Miami University (in Oxford, Ohio) professor was banned from using the school’s recreation center because he refused to stop wearing thong swimwear. The professor challenged the school in court. Read more

8. We all still remember Monica Lewinsky and her thong, that reportedly almost seduced President Clinton.

9.In 2002 thongs became the reason for a high school vice principal in San Diego being demoted to a teaching position. The lady physically checked up to 100 female students’ underwear to prevent them entering the school wearing thongs. Read more.

10. Manufacturers who produce child thongs are widely criticized by the public. The example can be a British retailer Argos who produced child-size thongs and padded bras for girls as young as nine and elicited a negative response from the public.
